The goal is to provide you with options and tools to assist in both enhancing and extending your Reiki experience and in general stress relief, sleep assistance and as a way into meditation for minds, like mine, which are too busy to relax easily.
The mental/emotional cleanse can be done a number of ways. I have heard from other experienced Reiki’s that they can cleanse at times by simply brushing down there body or shaking the negative away. However, in the beginning, you may want to try something which requires more concentration.
The first way I was taught and still use today is both simple to achieve mentally and is extremely relaxing and sleep friendly for the mind and body. I personally use this technique in bed before sleep every night, after I have grounded and before protecting.
Begin by imagining the top of your head as a clear surface. It can be flat or, like mine, the normal shape which slopes down at the sides. As you visualize the your clear head top imagine that it is a small city where all your worries, stress, fears, grievances and other issues that keep your mind awake live.
Give all of these mind gremlins physical form. They can be people, buildings, clusters of objects, whatever your mind perceives them as, let them form and be seen. Personally I get a mix of people, buildings and groups of odd shapes. The important issue is that you know what each group or object is and the worry, fear or pain it holds for you. These are the gremlins that clutter your mind and keep you awake at night and distracted during the day. I name each group (work, bills, etc.) as I review the now cluttered surface of my mental head and make sure all are present and accounted for.
Clearly, they have to go and this is the fun part. I was taught that I could clear these thought stealers with any object my mind choose to visualize that could push them away. Perhaps it would be a broom, shovel, bulldozer or even a tornado. The first image that came into my mind seemed very odd to me because it’s not something I would ever think about in everyday life (I don’t watch or even like hockey, I’m a bad Canadian). Didn’t matter though, no matter how hard I tried to visualize anything else that Zamboni just kept appearing so I rolled with it.
I have to say it was and is extremely satisfying to watch my mental Zamboni role across the ice city of my mind and sweep away every person, structure or object stressor and watch them fall off the side and out of my mental sight. My mind felt amazingly clear and free after that first Zamboni run and moved easily and calmly into the protection stage. Even more surprising to me, I had trouble keeping awake through protection and fell asleep immediately with a clear mind that felt guarded against any mental gremlins who might want to creep back in.
Of course, like any mental exercises, practice is key and the effects do wear off and need to be repeated. Nightly for a minimum of three weeks if you are serious about making an internal change is a good start, but even one night is fine if you just need to chase a few gremlins away and get some rest. Enjoy the sweeping/clearing implement of your choice. It will be interesting to see what appears when you ask you mind to “clean house”.
